Beachgoers Discover Human Jaw on LI Beach!

Two Long Island beachgoers made a chilling discovery during their Monday evening stroll at Smith Point County Park in Shirley. According to authorities, the man and woman stumbled upon a human jawbone on the beach along the south shore of the island just before 5 p.m. Upon finding the bone, they promptly brought it to the attention of a park attendant working at the beach, who then contacted the police.

The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad has taken over the investigation into this unsettling find. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner has confirmed that the remains are indeed human, but further examination is required to establish a connection to a specific individual. Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad are actively looking into the matter.

Individuals with any pertinent information are urged to reach out to the detectives at 631-852-6392.

This discovery comes as hearings continue for Rex Heuermann, a 60-year-old individual accused of being the Gilgo Beach serial killer. Heuermann now faces charges in relation to the killings of seven Long Island sex workers: Valerie Mack (24), Jessica Taylor (20), Megan Waterman (22), Melissa Barthelemy (24), Maureen Brainard-Barnes (25), Sandra Costilla (28), and Amber Lynn Costello (27). The majority of the victims’ remains were discovered along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach, which is also situated on the South Shore of Long Island, between December 2010 and April 2011.
