Mathews and Young Dominate as Hawks Beat Timberwolves 117-104!

Garrison Mathews set a career-high with seven 3-pointers and tallied a season-best 25 points coming off the bench as the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-104 on Monday night. Trae Young contributed 29 points and seven assists, while De’Andre Hunter chipped in 19 points, aiding the Hawks in breaking a three-game losing streak. Young, who was questionable due to a bruised heel, displayed no signs of discomfort.

Naz Reid led the Timberwolves with 23 points off the bench as they suffered their third consecutive loss. Anthony Edwards, making a significant appearance in his hometown, managed 16 points and six rebounds. Edwards struggled shooting, going 7 for 20 from the field and committing five turnovers while facing off against NBA defensive player of the month Dyson Daniels, who recorded eight steals.

Mathews was flawless from beyond the arc, going 5 for 5 in the first half and finishing 7 for 8 in total. The Hawks surged to a 30-11 lead early in the game as the Timberwolves struggled, shooting just 4 for 20 with five turnovers. However, Minnesota quickly rallied and managed to take a 55-52 lead at halftime, with Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker contributing 11 points each off the bench.

The victory for the Hawks not only ended their losing streak but also showcased Mathews’ sharpshooting prowess. Young’s strong performance despite injury concerns provided a boost for Atlanta, while the Timberwolves will look to regroup after their recent setbacks. The matchup highlighted the competitive spirit of both teams as they battled it out on the court.
