Jude Law Tapped to Portray Putin in Riveting Biopic!

Jude Law takes on the role of the Russian president in the upcoming film “The Wizard of the Kremlin,” based on the best-selling novel by Giuliano da Empoli. Law, known for his Bafta award-winning performances, portrays Vladimir Putin at the beginning of his political career in director Olivier Assayas’s new project.

Law, 52, underwent a dramatic transformation to embody Putin, describing the role as a challenging climb. On set, Law is seen in character wearing a black overcoat, suit, and tie, surrounded by actors portraying members of an Arab delegation. The film delves into Putin’s ascent to power in the early 1990s following the collapse of the Soviet Union, focusing on the influence of a fictional character named Vladimir Baranov, inspired by former Kremlin spin doctor Vladislav Surkov.

The plot follows Baranov as he manipulates truth and propaganda to shape Russian society, while grappling with personal relationships, including a romantic connection with the free-spirited Ksenia. Paul Dano, an Academy Award nominee known for his roles in acclaimed films like “There Will Be Blood” and “Love and Mercy,” portrays Baranov. Additionally, the cast features Oscar-winning Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who reunites with Law after their collaboration on “Firebrand.”

Director Assayas describes “The Wizard of the Kremlin” as a reflection on the chaotic transformations in the modern world, capturing the dynamic interplay between personal ambitions and historical events. The film aims to explore the intricate dynamics of power and politics, offering a cinematic journey through the tumultuous landscape of recent history.
