The officials in question are Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe. The scandal involved Waltz mistakenly adding The Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffery Goldberg to a group chat discussing detailed attack plans against Houthi rebels in Yemen, which were subsequently published by Goldberg.
Omar, a member of the left-wing progressive group known as “the squad,” has been advocating for this action among her Democratic colleagues in the House. President Donald Trump’s administration, including Hegseth and Waltz, have denied that any “war plans” were discussed in the chat. However, Goldberg released the full chat logs in a subsequent piece, revealing Hegseth’s specifics on future actions against the Houthis.
