Unpredictable Weather Forecast on Midwest Opening Day!

The 2025 Major League Baseball season kicks off on Thursday with 14 games scheduled, along with one additional opener set for Friday. While there are no major storms in the forecast, a few games may be impacted by the weather. Of the 15 games, nine will be played outdoors in stadiums without retractable roofs, while the remaining six have the option to close the roof if needed.

St. Louis is a point of concern as there is a chance of showers, possibly thundershowers, on Thursday afternoon when the Cardinals are set to host the Minnesota Twins. While heavy rain is not expected, there could be enough precipitation to cause a brief delay. Attendees should come prepared with rain gear in case of showers and follow safety instructions if lightning is detected near Busch Stadium.

In other Midwest cities like Chicago, Cincinnati, and Kansas City, there may be scattered showers nearby during the games. Visitors to these games should consider bringing rain gear as a precaution. Despite the potential for showers, temperatures are expected to be reasonable for late March, especially in Kansas City where warm winds will push temperatures into the 70s.

For games where a closed roof may be advantageous, such as in Toronto, Arlington, Houston, and Seattle, preparations should be made accordingly. The Northeastern games in the Bronx and Washington, D.C. will be slightly breezy and cool, but not uncomfortably so. A light jacket may be all that’s necessary to stay comfortable.

Phoenix and Southern California are expected to have clear skies for their openers, while Miami should have its roof open without any rain concerns. The Tampa Bay Rays will host the Colorado Rockies outdoors at Steinbrenner Field on Friday due to damage to Tropicana Field’s roof during Hurricane Milton.

Overall, the weather for the Opening Day games across the country looks promising, with minimal disruptions expected.
