MLB Suspends Julio Urías Until 2025 All-Star Break!

Julio Urías, the former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, has been suspended by MLB until the 2025 All-Star break for violating the league’s domestic-violence policy, as announced by the MLB on Friday. Urías, who is currently a free agent, will be eligible for reinstatement on July 17, 2025. This marks the second time that the 28-year-old Urías has been suspended under the league’s domestic-violence policy. Previously, he received a 20-game suspension in 2019 after being arrested and charged with domestic battery. Despite the setbacks, Urías returned to the Dodgers following his reinstatement in 2019, and was part of the team that clinched the World Series title in 2020. However, after facing another domestic-violence arrest in September 2023, Urías was placed on administrative leave and subsequently went unsigned in 2024 after his contract with the Dodgers expired.

Urías had shown great potential as a top prospect early in his career, but his success was marred by off-field issues. He had a standout season in 2019, with a 2.49 ERA over 79 2/3 innings, before his first suspension. Following his return in 2020, Urías had impressive seasons in 2021 and 2022, winning 20 games and finishing high in the Cy Young voting. However, injuries hampered his performance in 2023, where he struggled with a 4.60 ERA over 117 1/3 innings. With his major-league career potentially coming to an end due to the recent suspension, Urías’ future in baseball remains uncertain.
