The NFL’s initial free agency frenzy was fast-paced, with many players quickly finding new teams during the league’s tampering period. As a result, most top free agents have already signed, leaving a few notable veterans like Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and Amari Cooper still on the market. However, there is still time for all 32 NFL teams to enhance their rosters through second-wave free agency signings or the upcoming draft.
Here is a breakdown of each team’s remaining needs as the offseason progresses:
Arizona Cardinals
Primary Need: Wide Receiver
The Cardinals recently addressed their pass rush by adding Josh Sweat but still lack depth on offense. While they have a promising No. 1 receiver in Marvin Harrison Jr., they could benefit from upgrading their supporting cast to complement him. Adding a potential-packed No. 2 receiver to challenge the current options would be a wise move.
Atlanta Falcons
Primary Need: Edge Rusher
Despite signing Leonard Floyd, the Falcons still need to bolster their pass rush, as they struggled with sacks last season. Investing in a young, talented edge rusher to pair with Floyd and provide a long-term solution opposite Arnold Ebiketie is crucial.
Baltimore Ravens
Primary Need: Cornerback
With Brandon Stephens departing and Tre’Davious White remaining unsigned, the Ravens must address their cornerback position. While T.J. Tampa could step up, adding a true No. 2 cornerback to complement Nate Wiggins and Marlon Humphrey would strengthen their secondary.
Buffalo Bills
Primary Need: Cornerback
The Bills also require a No. 2 cornerback after trading Kaiir Elam and with Rasul Douglas still a free agent. While they have strong cornerbacks in Taron Johnson and Christian Benford, they need an outside starter to complete their secondary.
Carolina Panthers
Primary Need: Edge Rusher
Despite signing Patrick Jones II, the Panthers still need more talent at edge rusher to improve their pass rush. Adding depth behind their current players and seeking high-end talent will be key to enhancing their defense.
Chicago Bears
Primary Need: Running Back
After bolstering their offensive line, the Bears should focus on improving their running back position. Adding competition for D’Andre Swift, who struggled last season, will be essential to strengthening their backfield.
Cincinnati Bengals
Primary Need: Edge Rusher
The Bengals are in search of a pass-rushing partner for Trey Hendrickson to elevate their defense. Finding a high-end edge rusher to complement Hendrickson will be a priority for Cincinnati.
Last season, Cincinnati registered 36 sacks. Trey Hendrickson is now looking to be traded from the Bengals, which will only increase the team’s urgency to address their edge rusher needs. Potential landing spots for Hendrickson include the Bears and Commanders.
Cleveland Browns:
Biggest need: Quarterback
With Deshaun Watson unlikely to play in 2025 due to injuries, the Browns are in search of a long-term replacement. Despite acquiring Kenny Pickett, they may still look to add another quarterback to compete with their 2022 first-round pick.
Dallas Cowboys:
Biggest need: Running back
Although the Cowboys signed Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency, they need a young, three-down back to complement Dak Prescott. Adding a starting-caliber running back is a priority, with a secondary need for a No. 2 receiver.
Denver Broncos:
Biggest need: Running back
The Broncos could benefit from a dynamic pass-catching running back to enhance Sean Payton’s offense. While they have options like Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime, drafting a versatile back should be a priority.
Detroit Lions:
Biggest need: Edge rusher
Aidan Hutchinson stands out as a star edge rusher for the Lions, but they lack a strong complement for him. Detroit should target an edge rusher prospect in the draft to bolster their defense.
Green Bay Packers:
Biggest need: Cornerback
Green Bay should consider adding another high-quality cornerback, especially with uncertainty surrounding Jaire Alexander’s future. Strengthening the cornerback position is crucial for the Packers.
Houston Texans:
Biggest need: Offensive line
The Texans underwent changes to their offensive line, aiming to protect C.J. Stroud effectively. Adding more quality blockers to their roster will be key for their offensive success.
Indianapolis Colts:
Biggest need: Tight end
With limited production from their current tight ends, the Colts could benefit from acquiring a standout at the position. Targeting a top tight end prospect in the 2025 NFL draft could be a solution.
Jacksonville Jaguars:
Biggest need: Defensive tackle
The Jaguars lack a dominant playmaker at defensive tackle, making it a priority for them to consider options like Mason Graham in the upcoming draft.
Kansas City Chiefs: (additional text missing)
Top Priority: Offensive Tackle
The Chiefs recently signed Jaylon Moore to a lucrative two-year contract to anchor the left tackle position, but entrusting a player with only nine career starts to protect Patrick Mahomes’ blind side comes with risks. Additionally, Jawaan Taylor’s issues with penalties (17 last season) and Kingsley Suamataia’s shift to left guard highlight the need for the team to inject youth and talent into their offensive tackle group.
Las Vegas Raiders
Top Priority: Wide Receiver
The Raiders lack depth at wide receiver beyond veteran Jakobi Meyers. Given Geno Smith’s experience throwing to elite pass-catchers like DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett during his time with the Seahawks, there is a clear need for Las Vegas to invest in another dynamic receiver to complement Meyers and tight end Brock Bowers.
Los Angeles Chargers
Top Priority: Defensive Tackle
Following the departure of Poona Ford in free agency, the Chargers added Naquan Jones and Da’Shawn Hand to bolster their run defense. However, acquiring a high-quality, versatile defensive tackle is essential for maintaining their strong performance against the run in the upcoming season.
Los Angeles Rams
Top Priority: Cornerback
None of the Rams’ cornerbacks ranked among the top 50 players at the position in 2024, as per Pro Football Focus. To enhance their defense, particularly in light of strengthened run defense with signings like Poona Ford and Nate Landman, Los Angeles must target a top-tier cornerback to fortify their secondary.
Miami Dolphins
Top Priority: Guard
Protecting Tua Tagovailoa is a key focus for the Dolphins, especially with uncertainty surrounding Terron Armstead on the left side of the offensive line. While Patrick Paul could potentially step in at left tackle, Miami needs to address the left guard position, particularly with Liam Eichenberg’s struggles in the previous season.
Minnesota Vikings
Top Priority: Backup Quarterback
Despite making solid moves in the offseason, the Vikings still require a veteran backup quarterback. While cornerback depth could be improved, securing a proven signal-caller to support the return from injury of J.J. McCarthy is crucial for Minnesota.
New England Patriots
Top Priority: Offensive Tackle
Ensuring the protection of Drake Maye is paramount for the Patriots. With Vederian Lowe better suited as a backup tackle, New England must prioritize finding a long-term starter at offensive tackle to pair with Morgan Moses and plan for the future beyond the aging veteran.
New Orleans Saints
Top Priority: Wide Receiver
While possessing talented receivers in Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, the Saints could benefit from adding another receiving option to diversify their offensive threats. Given the limited game time for Olave and Shaheed, strengthening the depth at wide receiver is crucial for New Orleans.
New York Giants
Top Priority: Quarterback
With only Tommy DeVito currently on the quarterback roster, the Giants urgently need to add depth at the
The Jets are in need of a new partner for their quarterback after parting ways with Davante Adams. Allen Lazard may not be suitable as a No. 2 wide receiver at this point in his career, so the Jets are expected to target pass-catchers early in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.
Philadelphia Eagles
Primary Need: Edge Rusher
While there is an argument for finding a successor for right tackle Lane Johnson, the Eagles prioritize replenishing their depth in edge rushers. With Josh Sweat joining the Cardinals and Brandon Graham retiring, the Eagles brought in Azeez Ojulari on a one-year deal. However, Howie Roseman understands the importance of having ample depth in the trenches.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Primary Need: Quarterback
The Steelers are contemplating signing Aaron Rodgers, but regardless, they need to secure a long-term replacement. The quarterback class in the 2025 draft isn’t particularly strong, but Mike Tomlin and the Steelers may seek a developmental prospect like Jaxson Dart or Jalen Milroe to groom behind the veteran they acquire.
San Francisco 49ers
Primary Need: Defensive Line
Having parted ways with key players like Javon Hargrave, Maliek Collins, and Leonard Floyd, the 49ers lack depth at defensive tackle and require another pass-rushing option alongside Nick Bosa. While they also have needs on the offensive line, particularly at left guard and right tackle, the Niners face the challenge of addressing multiple areas while also handling an extension for Brock Purdy.
Seattle Seahawks
Primary Need: Interior Offensive Line
After signing Sam Darnold to a three-year deal, the Seahawks must enhance their blocking to support him. Darnold had one of the longest average time to throw last season, underscoring the need for top-tier guards or a reliable center to bolster the offensive line and optimize Darnold’s performance.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Primary Need: Linebacker
While lacking any glaring needs, the Buccaneers should consider planning for the future by finding a successor to the aging Lavonte David. Jihaad Campbell could be a viable option in the first round if available at the 19th pick.
Tennessee Titans
Primary Need: Quarterback
With only Levis and Allen at quarterback on their roster, the Titans are in dire need of a new signal-caller. While they have other needs to address, they are likely to target Cam Ward with the top overall pick in the draft.
Washington Commanders
Primary Need: Edge Rusher
Having bolstered their offense with Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel, the Commanders now shift their focus to the defense in the upcoming draft. Finding a replacement for Dante Fowler, who re-signed with the Cowboys on a one-year deal, is a priority for Washington.
