Freddie Freeman’s Optimism as Mookie Betts Eyes LA Return!

Los Angeles Dodgers’ first baseman Freddie Freeman is confident that his recent rib injury, which caused him to miss the team’s opening game against the Chicago Cubs, is not as severe as his previous injury last fall. Freeman had battled through rib and ankle issues during the playoffs last season but managed to shine in the World Series with crucial home runs. During batting practice before the Cubs game in Tokyo, Freeman experienced discomfort in the same rib area as last October’s injury, prompting him to sit out. However, he remains hopeful to play in the upcoming game.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed his understanding that Freeman’s injury is a milder recurrence of his postseason rib problem and supported the decision to rest him for the opener. Roberts stated he is not overly concerned and the medical staff has given Freeman a good chance to play in the next game. Meanwhile, Dodgers’ shortstop Mookie Betts was sent home from Japan due to a stomach virus that caused significant weight loss. Betts will focus on regaining strength and preparing for the team’s upcoming home opener after missing the games in Japan.

The Dodgers will have exhibition matches against the Los Angeles Angels before their home opener against the Detroit Tigers on March 27.
