UK’s AI Vision DeepMind’s Hassabis Calls for Global Ambition!

According to DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis, Britain should utilize its strengths to shape the global deployment of artificial intelligence. Hassabis, who established DeepMind in London in 2010 and later sold it to Google, highlighted the country’s leading universities and skilled workforce as key assets that position it at the forefront of technology.

Emphasizing the importance of being a leader in these technologies both economically and geopolitically, Hassabis stressed the need for Britain to influence how AI is utilized worldwide. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently mentioned that the U.S. and Britain are collaborating on an economic agreement with advanced technology as a central focus.

In a separate development, Oracle, a Google Cloud competitor, revealed plans to invest $5 billion in Britain over the next five years to meet the rising demand for its cloud services, aligning with the country’s AI innovation goals.

Hassabis also urged for the establishment of international standards concerning the use of copyrighted material in AI model development, noting the global nature of these models and their widespread usage.

These statements were made during a Google AI event, where Google Cloud unveiled new products, including expanded UK data residency for Google Agentspace and the introduction of the Chirp 3 audio generation model to its Vertex AI platform on Google Cloud starting next week.
