Police in New York City are searching for a suspect who set a man on fire in the middle of Times Square early Sunday in an attack reminiscent of a previous subway murder. The victim, a 45-year-old man who survived the ordeal, was targeted around 4 a.m. at the popular Midtown Manhattan destination. Firefighters and police collaborated to put out the flames and rushed the badly burned victim to a nearby hospital.
The victim reported that a man approached him, threw a flammable liquid on him, and then set him on fire. Authorities believe the assailant may have been known to the victim. The suspect, last seen wearing blue clothing, is currently being pursued by law enforcement.
This distressing incident follows a string of attacks involving fire victims, including a recent case where an illegal immigrant was accused of setting a woman on fire in the subway. Witnesses expressed shock and disbelief at the violence, with one resident describing the act as “inhumane,” particularly in a bustling area like Times Square.
As investigations continue, police are working diligently to apprehend the suspect and ensure the safety of the community.
