According to the Interior Ministry in Baghdad, Iraq’s security forces have successfully confiscated approximately 1.1 tonnes of captagon pills that were concealed inside a truck entering Iraq from Syria through Turkey. This drug seizure, the largest ever in Iraq, was made possible with the help of crucial information provided by Saudi Arabia’s drug enforcement agency, as stated by Interior Ministry spokesperson Brigadier Muqdad Meri in a televised announcement. Authorities in the West specializing in anti-narcotics have noted that captagon, an addictive amphetamine-based stimulant, has been widely manufactured in Syria for years. Commonly referred to as the “poor man’s cocaine,” captagon is a popular recreational drug among affluent young individuals in the Middle East.
