Unlocking the Mystery of Women’s Longer Lifespan!

Scientists have uncovered a new study that delves into why women live longer and experience slower cognitive decline compared to men. The research focuses on the potential benefits of women’s extra X chromosome, with hopes of developing interventions to harness its power for both sexes. The study, recently published in Science Advances and conducted on mice, suggests that females’ additional X chromosome, previously thought to be inactive, may be activated later in life. This activation leads to the expression of over 20 genes, many of which aid in brain development and contribute to a more youthful brain with fewer cognitive deficits. The findings hold promise for understanding why women tend to live longer and age smarter, and raise the possibility of developing interventions to enhance these beneficial gene expressions in both men and women. Further research is needed to fully explore these promising findings.
