PHOENIX (AP) — The late Arizona Democratic U.S. Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva was honored by U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, and several members of Congress following the news of his passing at the age of 77.
“Congressman Grijalva was not only my colleague but also my friend. As a fellow Latino in public service, I can attest that he served as a role model to many young people in Arizona. He dedicated his life to advocating for equality. During his tenure as chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, he championed Arizona’s water rights, natural beauty, and Tribes,” stated U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego of Arizona.
Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren expressed, “There are truly no words to adequately convey the immense gratitude I feel for his tireless work on behalf of tribal communities throughout Arizona. He was a true champion who listened to and uplifted voices that were often overlooked.”
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes added, “AZ has lost a remarkable leader today. Congressman Raul Grijalva tirelessly fought for the people of Arizona, particularly for working families, Indigenous communities, and environmental conservation. His legacy is unparalleled.”
