The Buffalo Bills have been busy this offseason, and they continued to take care of their own on Wednesday. Safety Damar Hamlin has been signed to a one-year contract extension, the team announced. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed at this time.
Hamlin, 26, is coming off a strong season in 2024, where he recorded 89 tackles, including two for a loss, along with career highs in passes defensed (5) and interceptions (2). He also secured his first career fumble recovery last season.
Originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft, Hamlin has shown growth since then. After a quiet rookie season predominantly on special teams, he became a starter in 2022 with 13 starts in 15 games.
In a memorable Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin experienced a scary moment when he collapsed on the field after a tackle. He was diagnosed with commotio cordis, a rare injury resulting from a blow to the chest at a precise moment during a heartbeat. Thankfully, he recovered fully and returned to the field in a limited capacity in 2023, eventually reclaiming his starting role in 2024.
The Bills, under the leadership of general manager Brandon Beane, have ensured that Hamlin will remain with the team for at least one more year.
