Amy Schumer is back on the big screen as a faux mom-to-be in Kinda Pregnant! Get a sneak peek at her

Amy Schumer discusses her latest film, expressing how she waited for a project she truly connected with before returning to movies. The central theme of the film revolves around the contrast between expectations and realities of marriage, parenting, and fertility decisions. Despite the weight of these topics, the film maintains a comedic heart, pushing boundaries while remaining heartfelt.

Director Tyler Spindel describes the project as a unique twist on the romantic comedy genre, reflecting Schumer’s signature style. Schumer not only stars in the film but also co-produces and co-writes alongside Julie Paiva. Their collaboration resulted in a script that Schumer feels reflects her vision, with her personal touches evident throughout.

“Kinda Pregnant” places a strong focus on female friendships, with the relationships between characters driving the narrative. Schumer emphasizes the importance of self-love and friendship over traditional romance, highlighting the bond between the characters portrayed by Schumer, Jillian Bell, Brianne Howey, Lizze Broadway, and Urzila Carlson.

Despite the romantic elements in the film, Schumer feels that the core message lies in the power of friendship and self-discovery. The camaraderie among the cast extended beyond the screen, with Schumer forming close bonds with her fellow actors during filming.

Notably, the film features a charming performance by Will Forte as the romantic lead, adding depth to the storyline. Schumer hopes audiences will appreciate Forte’s character, Josh, and the dynamic he brings to the film. The onscreen chemistry between Schumer and Forte enhances the romantic aspect of the story, adding another layer to the film’s narrative.

She was drawn to collaborating with the MacGruber star from the very beginning. According to Schumer, “The reason I was eager to work with him on this project is because he is just incredibly funny. And not to mention, I find him quite attractive, and he’s the type of guy I could see myself talking to and maybe even dating. It seems within the realm of possibility, you know? I appreciate that the romantic interests I have had the chance to work with exude a certain charm that is palpable, in my opinion. And there’s a sense of attainability to it all.”

In ‘Kinda Pregnant’, featuring Brianne Howey, Amy Schumer, Lizze Broadway, Urzila Carlson, and Jillian Bell, the dynamic cast brings a fresh energy to the screen. Schumer expressed her aspirations for the film in an earlier interview with Variety, stating, “I aim for it to be one of the top 10 funniest movies of my lifetime,” adding, “I believe it will be as hilarious as Trainwreck.” Responding to inquiries in November about the film’s comedic success, Spindel humorously quipped, “Determining that can be tricky since humor is subjective, but I can confidently assert that it’s funnier than The Green Mile and Schindler’s List combined.”

As ‘Kinda Pregnant’ prepares for its Netflix debut, Schumer envisions the film invoking positive emotions and sparking meaningful conversations. “We want to offer audiences something enjoyable to watch, a lighthearted and charming experience that doesn’t take itself too seriously,” notes Spindel. “It’s ideal for a date night or a girls’ gathering. Personally, I enjoy watching it with my pet fish in Spanish — the choice is yours.”

The star-studded cast of ‘Kinda Pregnant’, including Damon Wayans Jr., Alex Moffat, Joel David Moore, Francis Benhamou, Molly Sims, and Jackie Sandler, promises an engaging and entertaining viewing experience. The film is set to premiere on Netflix on February 5, 2025.
