A man from Florida, who viciously bit a chunk of flesh off a police officer’s head at a local music festival and then complained about having hair stuck in his teeth, has been sentenced to six years in prison for the drug-induced attack. James Anderson, 37, was convicted on Monday for sinking his teeth into a Holmes County Sheriff’s deputy’s head, causing a severe injury during the Sol Fest event in Ponce De Leon on May 5, 2024. The State Attorney’s Office reported that the officer sustained a horrifying wound with a visible hole in the back of his head.
Chief Prosecutor Jacob Cook emphasized that violence against law enforcement will not be tolerated, and the perpetrator will face consequences for his actions. Anderson, who was heavily under the influence of various drugs at the time, was volunteering at the festival when he attempted to take the deputy’s gun and then launched the unprovoked attack. Despite being subdued by multiple officers and a taser, Anderson continued to resist.
The drug-fueled assailant, who was found to be on PCP, LSD, ketamine, mushrooms, and ecstasy during the assault, was sentenced after pleading guilty to aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer at the Holmes County Circuit Court. In addition to serving six years in prison, Anderson will face ten years of felony probation upon his release. The officer, who has since recovered with significant scarring, has returned to duty.
