In 2024, homes were enlivened with an abundance of pattern, texture, and color across all spaces. Designers are now venturing even further into vibrant and unexpected territory this year. Bathrooms present a perfect canvas for creativity, offering opportunities to explore large-format tile, Zellige, luxurious materials, playful mosaics, or inject a touch of mystery into your en suite.
We spoke with interior designers to uncover the latest bathroom tile trends for 2025.
Embracing Bold Color
Renowned designer Ruben Gutierrez of Errez Design in Miami points out that one prominent tile trend for 2025 is the fearless use of bold, vibrant colors. Rich jewel tones such as sapphire blues, emerald greens, and sumptuous burgundies can transform bathrooms from sterile to striking. Maria Martin, a designer based in Austin, suggests indulging in a “rich material palette,” such as marble with intricate patterns in dark hues. According to Martin, marble now comes in a diverse range of colors beyond traditional white and gray, including greens, violets, browns, and rusty reds.
For inspiration, consider incorporating outdoor hues into your bathroom tiles, drawing elements from the local architecture or landscape. Heidi Feliz-Grimm of O’Hara Interiors in Austin recommends using terracotta tiles in homage to the warm Texan surroundings. Gabriela Esenhart, founder of Silo Studios, highlights the rise of unconventional shades like maroon, purple, and deep blues and greens.
A Nostalgic Touch
Geometric patterns, popular in mid-century modern design, are making a comeback, says Virginia designer Nancy Parris. This resurgence enables the seamless integration of timeless elements into modern spaces. Ann Edgerton, an interior designer and furniture maker in Texas, finds allure in nostalgic geometric patterns, believing they add depth to new constructions. She recently introduced an asymmetric rainbow motif using cement tiles in a project.
Adding Depth and Motion
Designer Kelly Neely suggests starting with simple patterns to introduce color gradually. In a beach project, she opted for Chinoiserie tiles from New Ravenna, featuring marcasite, pewter, mica, and sea glass quartz. Adrian Andronachi, a designer in Boca Raton, praises the evolution of three-dimensional sculptural tiles, which play with light and shadow to create depth, movement, and visual interest.
Embrace Oversized Formats or Border Details
This year, break conventional tile layout conventions by embracing oversized, large-format tiles in intriguing patterns. Sarah Hargrave of The Collective emphasizes the importance of ensuring a deliberate and well-balanced design. She also appreciates the resurgence of border tiles, which frame the primary tile area, providing definition and a refined aesthetic. Look for handmade options instead of perfection when selecting tile. Adronachi highlights the trend of bespoke accent tiles, where handcrafted and custom-designed tiles are preferred over mass-produced options. Homeowners are choosing hand-painted patterns, artisanal mosaics, and engraved motifs that reflect their heritage or personal style, creating bathrooms that are an extension of their identity.”
