Temperatures are forecasted to climb to their highest levels of the year, replacing the chilly air with warmer conditions.
In some regions, temperatures will be 10-20 degrees above the historical average, with highs in the 30s and 40s in the North being replaced by 50s and 60s, and highs in the South reaching the 70s and 80s. This warming trend will provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities like walks, jogs, and sports. The gradual thaw without heavy rain will help reduce snow cover and mitigate flooding risks in New England and Canada.
Some daily record highs may be challenged, and a breeze off bodies of water may lead to cooler conditions in certain areas. A push of cool air across the Upper Midwest and Northeast midweek may briefly halt or reverse the warmup trend. Additionally, the breezy conditions increase the risk of brush fires, especially in early spring, so caution is advised when using outdoor equipment.
Towards the end of the week, a potent storm from the Pacific will bring severe weather and an increased risk of wildfires over the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Gardeners are reminded to be cautious about planting sensitive plants outdoors due to the potential for frost. Colder conditions may make a comeback later in the month due to a weakening polar vortex.
