The FOX Forecast Center is closely monitoring the aftermath of a fierce spring storm that is poised to impact the Northeast on Thursday. Expect ongoing rain showers in the area, with a chance of snow in the Appalachians. The primary concern will be strong westerly and northwesterly winds persisting into the afternoon, with gusts reaching 20 to 40 mph until conditions stabilize by Friday.
These gusty winds will disrupt travel in the Northeast, potentially causing airport delays through the week’s end. Fortunately, dry weather will prevail on Friday before another round of rain and snow showers arrives late Friday night and early Saturday.
Earlier this week, the same system unleashed destructive winds and isolated tornadoes in the South, resulting in three fatalities. Over 160 severe weather incidents were reported, leaving hundreds of thousands without power.
A powerful winter storm also wreaked havoc in the Midwest, triggering blizzard conditions and claiming three lives. As the storm system swept through Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday morning, residents were advised to stay indoors due to blizzard-like conditions and zero visibility.
Meanwhile, the West Coast can expect multiple rounds of rain and snow in the coming week. Southern California is currently experiencing beneficial rainfall as a storm front moves in from the Pacific Ocean. Substantial mountain snowfall is forecasted for the Intermountain West region through the weekend.
As we head into the weekend, California will see a reprieve with sunny skies, but a new storm brewing 2,500 miles off the California coast is projected to bring more rain and mountain snow by early next week.
In other news, a harrowing incident occurred on a highway near Garden City, Kansas, as a massive storm battered the heartland, causing a semi-truck’s cargo trailer to detach and slam onto the road in a dramatic crash.
