Residents of San Bernardino, California are being urged to keep an eye out for a lost Chihuahua following a peculiar break-in that resulted in several shelter dogs being set free overnight. Louise, a small, cream-colored Chihuahua with droopy ears, was last seen at the San Bernardino Department of Animal Services early on February 26th. She was among 25 dogs released from their kennels when an individual broke into the shelter using bolt cutters. While most of the dogs were quickly recaptured, Louise remains at large, prompting concern for her well-being.
The shelter staff swiftly shared the incident on Instagram, receiving an outpouring of support from followers appreciative of the diligent efforts to secure the dogs’ return. The motive behind the break-in, which also involved relocating four dogs to a nearby dumpster, remains unclear. The same woman responsible for the break-in led authorities to the dogs in the dumpster and was subsequently arrested on unrelated charges.
Fortunately, the majority of the dogs have been safely returned to the shelter and received a clean bill of health from the veterinarian. However, the search for Louise continues. Thelma and Louise, two rescued dogs who were once companions at the shelter, have been separated, with Thelma already found safe nearby. The shelter implores anyone with information on Louise’s whereabouts to come forward to ensure her safe return home.
