Snow Stretch! Colorado to Pennsylvania in White Bounty!

A mysterious winter phenomenon is unfolding across multiple states, with a storm system bringing snow from the Intermountain West to the central Appalachians. As per AccuWeather meteorologists, this storm, which follows blizzard conditions in parts of the central United States, is expected to stretch nearly 2,000 miles from the Rockies to the central Appalachians by the end of this week.

Towards the end of the week, heavy snow is predicted to fall on areas such as the Wasatch, Teton, and Rocky mountains, with anticipated accumulations of 6-12 inches and the possibility of up to 24 inches in certain locations, indicated by an AccuWeather Local StormMaxâ„¢ snowfall.

Initially benefiting from moisture originating from the Pacific Ocean while over the Rockies, the storm may face limitations in its moisture supply as it progresses eastward, potentially impacting areas further east. Despite this, heavy snowfall is forecasted for northwestern and north-central Nebraska, with lesser accumulations expected as the storm moves eastward.

Accumulations in the Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, and central Appalachians are projected to range from a coating to a couple of inches as the storm advances. Warmer ground conditions over the Central states coupled with springtime sunlight may hinder snow accumulation during midday and afternoon hours, especially on surfaces that were recently clear of snow.

Motorists are advised to remain cautious of slippery conditions and reduced visibility along the Interstate 80 corridor in the Central states, as well as interstates 79, 81, and 99 near the central Appalachians, where snowfall could lead to flight delays due to deicing procedures at airport hubs.

Over the weekend, a secondary band of snow is expected to develop over the Upper Midwest to the eastern Great Lakes, with light and scattered accumulations anticipated in this region. As warmer air moves northward from the south over the Central states and eventually into the Northeast next week, the snowfall patterns are expected to evolve.
