Prepare for a thrilling immersion into the world of science and arts as Hull gears up to host its first-ever dedicated festival, Colliderfest! Scheduled to take place from March 13 to 16 across various locations in Hull’s city center, Colliderfest is set to offer over 80 events curated by its enthusiastic organizers. From educational exhibitions to interactive workshops, this festival is designed to ignite curiosity and spark creativity among its visitors.
One of the highlights of Colliderfest is a spectacular light and sound installation that will transform the city center into a mesmerizing wonderland. Additionally, attendees can look forward to a street-theatre performance featuring a remarkable 13ft-tall sea creature puppet and a special appearance by the renowned children’s TV science presenter, Maddie Moate.
Describing the festival as “an explosion of creativity and curiosity,” Prof Mark Lorch, the festival director, invites everyone to experience the magic of Colliderfest firsthand in the heart of Hull.

Labelled as a “four-day extravaganza,” the festival kicks off with two days dedicated to educational events tailored for schools, followed by a weekend brimming with science and arts-based activities, workshops, and shows.
As the sun sets on March 14 and 15, Queen Victoria Square, Whitefriargate, Beverley Gate, and Trinity Square will be illuminated by the enchanting light and sound installation, After Dark, from 18:30 to 21:30 GMT.
A not-to-be-missed theatre performance, Out of the Deep Blue, will showcase the awe-inspiring 13ft-tall sea giant puppet as it emerges from the depths of the ocean to embark on an unforgettable journey alongside a brave young girl. Scheduled at various times on Saturday and Sunday, this theatrical spectacle promises to captivate audiences of all ages.
In addition to these main events, Colliderfest will feature a myriad of workshops, experiments with exotic animals, cutting-edge robotics demonstrations, and activities focusing on environmental awareness and climate change.
Collaboratively organized by Hull City Council, the Hull Maritime project, Hull Museums and Gallery, and the University of Hull, this festival promises a dynamic and immersive experience for all attendees.
Spanning across multiple Discovery Zones, the festival will predominantly take place in key city center venues like Hull Minster, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull Truck Theatre, the Wilberforce Institute, and the Streetlife Museum. Street performances and installations will further enhance the festival atmosphere, with additional attractions at The Deep and Humber Street.
The University of Hull will be a hub of intellectual exchange, hosting talks and workshops on its Cottingham Road campus to engage visitors in thought-provoking discussions.
