Talented pitcher’s promising season disrupted by mysterious injury

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — The Athletics decided to shut down Brady Basso on Tuesday due to a shoulder strain, putting a pause on what had been a successful spring training for the southpaw as he aimed to secure a spot with the major league team following his debut with Oakland last season. At 27 years old, Basso, who posted a 1-1 record with a 4.03 ERA in seven outings for the A’s, had not conceded a single run in 4 1/2 innings pitched. The team, before heading out for their spring training matchup against Texas, disclosed that there was no set timeframe for his comeback.
On a separate note regarding injuries, left-handed pitcher Ken Waldichuk has commenced throwing sessions in the bullpen as he progresses in his recovery journey from Tommy John surgery undergone last year. Waldichuk had the surgical procedure in May and the expected recovery duration was estimated at 13 months.
Meanwhile, third baseman Brett Harris is currently grappling with a strained left oblique. Harris batted .146 in 36 games for Oakland in the previous season.
