Just recently, Baltimore Ravens guard Ben Cleveland has taken the unexpected step of filing for divorce from his wife, Kaitlyn Terrell, mere weeks after finding himself in trouble with the law over a DUI arrest. The 26-year-old NFL player submitted the divorce paperwork in Baldwin County, Georgia on Friday, February 28.
In the court documents reviewed by PEOPLE, Cleveland cited “adultery” as the reason for seeking the dissolution of his marriage with Terrell. According to the official filing, the couple’s split date is indicated as being on or around December 29, 2024, although Terrell and Cleveland had exchanged vows on July 21, 2022.
Despite the public scrutiny following these events, neither Terrell nor Cleveland have made any statements on social media regarding their separation. PEOPLE has reached out to both parties for comment, but as of now, there has been no response.
The timing of the divorce filing is striking, occurring only two weeks after Cleveland’s arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence in Baldwin County, as announced by the NFL on February 17. The incident reportedly took place on the evening of February 12 in Milledgeville, where Cleveland was allegedly seen swerving on the road and weaving between lanes.
According to the police report mentioned in the NFL’s release, officers detected the smell of alcohol emanating from Cleveland’s vehicle and observed his glossy eyes. Following a field sobriety test, Cleveland was found to have a blood alcohol content level of .178, surpassing the legal limit by more than double, leading to his subsequent arrest.
Interestingly, the divorce filing does not make any reference to Cleveland’s DUI arrest, as per the official documents. Drafted by the Ravens in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Cleveland has appeared in a total of 54 games throughout his career.
