Mysterious Midweek Storm Threatens Northern US Region

The second of three storms for this week is set to traverse the borderlands of the United States and Canada through Thursday, bringing along a mix of rain, ice, and snow. This peculiar blend of precipitation is a result of the lingering mild air that has recently settled in the region, as noted by AccuWeather meteorologists. Similar to the preceding storm that departed on Tuesday, the upcoming second storm is facing limited cold air to work with, with the majority of it concentrated along the northern tier of the U.S. and into Canada. While the presence of mild air and the expectation of rain rather than snow or ice may offer some relief to those tired of winter, it also presents its own set of challenges.

The initial concern will derive from patches of fog that could impede travel and create hazardous conditions on roadways. Foggy conditions, associated with the storm and the mild, moist air, are expected to stretch from the vicinity of the Interstate 80 and 90 corridor in the Midwest and Northeast regions down to the Gulf Coast states. Particularly dense fog may develop in areas where the ground remains cold or is still covered in remnants of snow and ice.

Rainfall is anticipated in most major metropolitan areas, including Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston. The storm approaching Detroit may commence with isolated instances of icy conditions, with rain potentially transitioning to snow in the Motor City. Although the total rainfall from the storm is not expected to be excessive, there is a possibility of intense downpours leading to urban flooding and standing water on highways, particularly in areas along the I-80 and I-70 corridors. The risk of ponding is heightened in locations where the ground beside the roads is still frozen or drainage is obstructed by snow buildup. Under rare circumstances, the combination of melting snow and rainfall could result in ice-jam flooding along the northern reaches.

The infusion of milder air will prompt the melting and thawing of ice on lakes and ponds, posing dangers for individuals and animals venturing onto the ice. A wintry mix of rain and snow is projected from a sizable portion of Wisconsin and the Lower Peninsula of Michigan to upstate New York and central New England, encompassing the Maine coastline. However, pockets of sleet and freezing rain may also materialize within these areas.

Snow accumulation is forecasted predominantly from northern Michigan and central Ontario to southern Quebec, northern New England, and the northern part of New York state due to the storm. In most instances, the few inches of snowfall will serve as a final touch following weeks of significant snowfall in heavily populated regions of Canada, from Ottawa to Montreal and Quebec City.

As the tail end of the midweek storm moves eastward, dropping temperatures overnight could result in the freezing of untreated wet surfaces. A slight influx of cold air is expected to reintroduce wintry conditions within the following 24-48

The sentence is incomplete.
