By Pete Schroeder, WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump disclosed on social media Sunday that Dan Bongino, a conservative talk show host, has been selected as the deputy director of the FBI. Bongino will be working alongside Kash Patel, who was recently approved by the Senate as the FBI director. Trump announced that Patel appointed Bongino to the position, which does not necessitate Senate confirmation.
“Fantastic news for Law Enforcement and American Justice!” Trump shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, praising Bongino as “a man with an extraordinary love and commitment to our Country.” Bongino comes from a background as a former New York City police officer and a U.S. Secret Service member. More recently, he has gained recognition as a conservative radio host and podcaster.
In his social media post, Trump highlighted that Bongino is willing to transition from his current show as he takes on this new responsibility. “The Dan Bongino Show” was recently ranked as the 56th most popular podcast in the United States, as per Spotify rankings.
