Tragedy struck a Harlem apartment building in the early hours of Saturday morning as a devastating fire engulfed a skyscraper, claiming the life of an unexpected victim. The victim, a 66-year-old woman, was rushed to Harlem Hospital in critical condition after the blaze broke out at 151 W. 140th St. around 1 a.m. Despite the efforts of first responders, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Approximately 60 firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, battling the fierce flames that erupted within the seven-story building. Braving the cold weather, firefighters and residents stood together in a united effort to combat the fire that resulted in the loss of a life in the heart of Harlem.
The fire, which began on the fourth floor of the building, was reportedly where the victim resided. The FDNY’s Bureau of Fire Investigation has launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the blaze, seeking to shed light on the tragic incident that claimed the woman’s life. At this time, the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of her family.
