Granola Bars Recalled Due to Hazardous Contamination Concern

“Through these links, Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue.” Once again, a food recall has made headlines! Riverside Natural Foods Inc., the manufacturer behind the popular MadeGood brand of granola bars, has issued a recall as a precautionary measure following the potential discovery of metal in certain batches of its granola bars. Initially implemented in December 2024, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has now heightened the severity of this recall, prompting consumers to inspect their pantry stock. MadeGood, in a statement on their website, described the metal particles as “small, flat brush bristles.” They have emphasized that the likelihood of metal contamination in their products is minimal, citing only seven complaints among the millions of bars sold, with no reported injuries.

This recall impacts nearly two and a half million cases of granola bars, encompassing a wide range of products available at major retailers and grocery stores across Canada and the United States, including Target, Walmart, and online platforms. The affected items include MadeGood’s Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, Chocolate Banana Granola Bars, Cookies & Creme Granola Bars, Mixed Berry Granola Bars, Strawberry Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Granola Bars Variety Pack, MadeGood Variety Pack, Halloween Chocolate Chip Granola Mini Bars, and Holiday Sprinkles Chocolate Drizzled Granola Mini Bars. For specific details such as sell-by dates and UPC codes for the impacted products, consumers are advised to refer to the recall page.

While a Class II recall does not signify the most severe level of risk, it does indicate that “a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” as per the FDA’s classification. Fortunately, refunds are available for individuals who have purchased the affected granola bars from the respective retailers.

If you’re concerned about product safety, you can find further information on the recall page. Remember to stay informed and take necessary precautions when it comes to food safety issues.
