In a surprising turn of events, the attorney representing Sean Combs in a notable case abruptly filed an affidavit in Manhattan federal court, expressing his inability to continue as counsel for the celebrity. In the court document, the lawyer, Ricco, stated firmly, “Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs. It is respectfully but regrettably requested that the court grant the relief requested.” While the lawyer did not provide detailed reasons for his decision, he mentioned that it was made following a discussion with Combs’ lead counsel, Marc Agnifilo.
Ricco indicated that the brevity of his affidavit was intentional, as he aimed to uphold the confidentiality protected by the attorney-client privilege. Although the lawyer did not delve into the specific grounds for his withdrawal from the criminal sex-trafficking case involving the disgraced music producer, he assured the judge that there were valid reasons prompting his request to be relieved from his duties.
Furthermore, Ricco reassured the court that his resignation would not cause any delay in the trial proceedings scheduled for May 5, as Combs will continue to be represented by five other attorneys of record. Combs, aged 54, has maintained his plea of not guilty to the charges alleging his involvement in coercing women into participating in drug-fueled sex exhibitions.
Currently detained without bail since his arrest in September, Combs faces severe legal repercussions, including a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment if convicted of the primary charge. Additionally, the music mogul is entangled in over 40 lawsuits filed by individuals, both men and women, accusing him of drugging and sexually assaulting or raping them.
