Introducing a Room Inspired by Timeless Elegance

“Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links.” Renowned for her contemporary interpretation of traditional American design, Caroline Gidiere found her muse in Casa Branca’s Palampore fabric while conceptualizing the main sitting room for this year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach. The fabric’s historic tree-of-life motif, rejuvenated in charming hues of salmon, butter yellow, and olive, resonated with Gidiere as the perfect inspiration for a sophisticated yet inviting private retreat for a Palm Beach socialite.

In her vision, Gidiere crafted a feminine sitting room where a lady of leisure could unwind with a cup of coffee, leisurely browse her phone, jot down notes, or enjoy a cocktail before dinner. The space exudes a mid-century Palm Royale club ambiance, as envisioned by Gidiere. Drawing inspiration from iconic designs like Lee Radziwill’s Turville Grange bedroom and Frances Elkins’ elegant sitting room, she expertly blended vintage elements with modern touches to create a timeless sanctuary.

While elements like a pink rotary phone, vintage rattan furniture, and pelmet-style draperies pay homage to Palm Beach’s glamorous past, the addition of lighting by Vaughan, furnishings by Made Goods, and a grand shell mirror by Wexler Robichaux infuses a contemporary allure that appeals to women of all generations. The room’s focal point is a splendid antique yellow-and-white floral rug from Rug & Kilim, anchoring the space with its timeless charm.

Two sets of bookshelves adorned with wallpaper double as elegant serving stations for coffee and cocktails, catering to the room’s versatile functionality. With panoramic views of Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway enhancing the room’s allure, guests are sure to linger in this convivial setting, enjoying its welcoming atmosphere from morning to night.
