Suits LA is prepared to engage with real Hollywood A-listers and strike deals. The minds behind the upcoming Suits spinoff inform Entertainment Weekly that their new show bears resemblance to Entourage, as celebrities will make appearances on screen as fictionalized versions of themselves seeking the services of Black Lane law firm.
“These are entertainment attorneys with entertainment clientele,” showrunner Aaron Korsh remarks. “Many times, these clients will be actual actors portraying alternative versions of themselves. The allure of the show lies in witnessing real actors portraying themselves and offering a glimpse behind the scenes into the lives of individuals striving to succeed in our industry. The cases they handle may range from trivial to significant, often with an emotional undercurrent.”
“It’s reminiscent of Entourage,” notes Bryan Greenberg, who portrays the ambitious lawyer Rick Dodson. He clarifies, “Not the party scene of Entourage, but the negotiation aspects meeting the ambiance of Suits. There’s a touch of Mad Men office politics thrown in. It’s intriguing.”
Once again crafted and executive produced by Korsh (the creator of the original Suits), Suits LA follows a fresh ensemble of lawyers, led by Ted Black (played by Stephen Amell, known for Arrow and Heels), a former federal prosecutor from New York who has transformed into a prominent entertainment lawyer representing some of Hollywood’s top talents.
“He perceives himself as the preeminent entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles and Hollywood, which in turn positions him as the leading entertainment lawyer globally,” Amell describes his character. “He manages the likes of Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, and Leonardo DiCaprio. These are the cream of the crop.”
While the casting process continues for various celebrities set to portray themselves in brief appearances and extended storylines, Patton Oswalt and The Office star Brian Baumgartner have been confirmed for guest roles. “We intend to feature individuals from different echelons, recognizable faces whose names may not be as familiar, along with others you may recognize from beloved shows,” Korsh explains. “Different personalities are expected to join us along the way.”
Amell reveals they are in talks with notable actors for extended roles in the first season and possibly beyond. “We’ve reached out to a few individuals, and some have responded with a ‘let’s see how the show pans out’ attitude,” he mentions. “Alright, duly noted. I won’t hold it against them, but I’ll remember.”
John Amos, renowned for Good Times and Roots, will make a posthumous appearance in the pilot episode in his final on-screen portrayal (he passed away on August 21, 2024, of natural causes at age 84), depicting himself.
