Top-Secret Summit Convened Following High-Stakes Diplomatic Maneuver

After a crucial diplomatic move unfolded over the weekend, President Zelenskyy made a significant statement in an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, asserting his unwavering stance against any decisions regarding Ukraine made solely between the United States and Russia. He emphasized that no global leader has the authority to negotiate with Putin on Ukraine’s behalf without their direct involvement. This strong statement has sparked concerns among European leaders about the potential implications of a peace agreement between President Trump and Putin that could compromise Kyiv’s interests and broader European security.

In response to these apprehensions, a clandestine summit has been arranged, with the Elysée Palace confirming the participation of leaders from various European Union countries. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, along with the Presidents of the European Council and European Commission, and the Secretary-General of NATO are also set to attend. The summit is scheduled to commence at 3:45 p.m. local time, with discussions likely to unfold regarding the formation of a unified European stance in negotiations involving the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb, speaking at the conclusion of the Munich Security Conference, proposed the appointment of a special envoy to represent European nations in broader diplomatic talks. Furthermore, the potential deployment of troops from France, Britain, and Poland to facilitate a future ceasefire in Ukraine has been brought to the table by France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In a significant development, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer publicly affirmed his nation’s commitment to deploying peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, a sentiment echoed by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who expressed openness to contributing troops if negotiations progress positively. Despite reassurances from America’s chief diplomat, Rubio, that Europe will not be sidelined in discussions regarding security matters in its vicinity, concerns linger about the extent of European involvement in the upcoming negotiations.

Following a recent phone call between President Trump and Putin, assurances were given to President Zelenskyy that Ukraine would be included in the negotiation process. While Kyiv has not yet received an official invitation to the inaugural talks in Riyadh, President Zelenskyy has disclosed plans to visit Saudi Arabia in the coming days, with expectations of further clarity on a meeting with President Trump after a visit by Trump’s envoy to Ukraine later this week.
