High-stakes Meeting Called After Shocking Hostage Release

Returning hostages entered Israeli territory on Saturday and reunited with their families in southern Israel. In exchange for releasing three Israeli hostages, Hamas received the release of 369 Palestinian prisoners, most of whom were detained in the Gaza Strip after the terror attack on Oct. 7, 2023.

A joint statement confirmed that the returning hostages are being accompanied by IDF special forces and ISA forces for medical assessment upon their return to Israel. The IDF expressed their support and respect for the returning hostages and their families.

IDF officers and medical officials are supporting the returning hostages, with families waiting at the hospital and being updated by IDF officials. The Israeli prime minister’s office affirmed their commitment to assisting in the rehabilitation of the hostages post-captivity.

The release of hostages faced challenges from Hamas, which were resolved due to coordinated efforts and support from the United States. The goal remains to rescue all hostages swiftly, with preparations underway for future operations.

A bus carrying released Palestinian prisoners arrived in Ramallah in the Israeli-occupied West Bank to celebrations. The 369 released Palestinians will return to Gaza or the West Bank based on their origin.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to arrive in Israel, according to Israeli sources.
