Reports emerged of a mysterious incident that resulted in nearly a dozen individuals, including seven children, being rushed to the hospital due to a suspected case of carbon monoxide poisoning at a day care in Maine on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Authorities were alerted to the potential presence of carbon monoxide at Building Blocks, a day care center located in Kittery, Maine, at around 3:20 p.m. local time on that fateful day. At the time of the distress call, the building housed 27 children and around 10 staff members.
Upon receiving the report, the Kittery police swiftly took action, coordinating with the Kittery Fire Department, Stewarts Ambulance, and additional emergency service providers to respond to the scene. The priority was to provide immediate assistance to all those affected by the incident. While the police assured that the seven individuals transported to the hospital had sustained non-life-threatening injuries and no fatalities were reported, conflicting information emerged from a spokeswoman at the nearby Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire.
The hospital spokesperson disclosed that a total of seven children and four adults were admitted to the hospital in connection with the suspected poisoning. By 7:00 p.m., all patients had been listed in fair condition. Subsequently, the spokesperson indicated that only two patients, one child, and one adult, remained under hospital care, with expectations of their discharge later that evening. Efforts were being made to reunite the unaffected children with their parents in accordance with the day care’s established protocols.
The investigation into the cause of the suspected poisoning was delegated to the Maine fire marshal by the authorities.
