Exciting Announcement: Music-Fueled Comedy Film on the Horizon

A thrilling comedy movie, crafted in collaboration with Green Day, is currently in the works under the banner of Live Nation Productions. Titled “New Years Rev,” this film narrates the tale of three close friends – portrayed by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust – embarking on a journey to Los Angeles under the mistaken impression that their band is set to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve.

Additional details from Variety reveal that The Office favorites Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, along with Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo, are part of the star-studded cast. The film, both written and directed by Lee Kirk, is currently in production in Oklahoma.

As per the logline, “Their road trip is a rowdy and mischievous jaunt across the country filled with adventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van.” Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong expressed, “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of.”

The film is produced by Tim Perell for Process, in collaboration with Green Day members Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool, and Stella Bulochnikov for Pat Solitano Productions. Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Productions, along with Jonathan Daniel, are serving as executive producers.

Renowned for their alternative hits like “Basket Case” and “American Idiot,” Green Day recently released their latest album, “Saviors,” in 2024. The band is scheduled to headline Coachella in April.

Live Nation Productions, the film and TV division of Live Nation Entertainment, is spearheading this music-inspired project. Their repertoire includes acclaimed works like “A Star Is Born,” “Moonage Daydream,” “Love, Lizzo,” and the upcoming feature “K-Pops” featuring Anderson .Paak.

The talent behind the camera, Thames, Coffman, and Foust, are represented by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, MAG Talent Agency, Luber Roklin Management, and Paradigm, respectively. Ryan Kroft, the head of film and TV at Live Nation Productions, emphasized, “‘New Years Rev’ tells the story of young artists chasing a dream – long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fueling their journey. Brought to life by an incredible cast, it’s a tribute to the magic of live music.”
