A mysterious collision at the nearby Super Ice Rink resulted in a power loss and subsequent fire in its basement. The flames quickly spread to the first floor, prompting the evacuation of the premises until the fire was successfully extinguished. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Local resident Mike Belling described the sudden power outage, stating, “We were getting ready to start the day when the power went out really quick.” He went on to mention the blaring sirens and the procession of fire department trucks that followed shortly after.
The road in the vicinity remained closed throughout the morning to allow repair crews to address the damage caused by the incident. Thankfully, most households affected by the power loss have since had their electricity restored.
Over the weekend, Long Island experienced a significant snowfall, accumulating upwards of 5 inches in some areas.
