The rapper expressed that they customized her “invisible dress” six times and defiantly responded to critics by questioning how they believe his mother would react, asserting that “you don’t know my mama.” Ye also shared multiple pictures of Censori in the controversial dress, noting that he was now simply flaunting their style. Is it demeaning or empowering? The buzz surrounding Bianca Censori’s risqué attire at the Grammys persists.
Upon their arrival at the Grammys’ red carpet, Ye sported a black shirt and pants, contrasting with Censori’s black fur coat. However, she soon shed the coat to unveil her nearly nude ensemble, posing alongside Ye for photographs on the carpet. Subsequent reports from Us Weekly and E! News indicated that the pair promptly exited the event without attending the awards show.
“Just like magic, poof, we disappeared,” Ye shared on X on Thursday, reflecting on the eventful evening.
The couple’s public appearance quickly stirred controversy, with critics deeming it inappropriate and degrading. On “The View,” Alyssa Farah Griffin expressed her discomfort, stating that she no longer wishes to see Ye on red carpets and hopes that Censori is coping well following the unsettling display.
Leora Tanenbaum, author of “Sexy Selfie Nation: Standing Up for Yourself in Today’s Toxic, Sexist Culture,” also weighed in, stating, “Censori’s nearly nude attire redirected the focus towards her physique, diverting attention from Ye’s troubling history of hate-filled remarks and actions. Shifting the spotlight away from his conduct while highlighting his persona as an alpha male with an attractive spouse only serves his benefit.”
In 2022, Ye faced backlash for making antisemitic comments and expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler. He subsequently issued an apology to the Jewish community. Later in the year, his former assistant accused him of inappropriate behavior, and a model filed a lawsuit, alleging that he had behaved inappropriately towards her during a music video shoot.
Yet on Instagram, Ye shared an article from Vogue penned by Raven Smith, which defended Censori’s choice of attire. Smith highlighted the importance of acknowledging a woman’s agency in her fashion choices, emphasizing that assumptions should not be made based on one’s attire. In response, Ye expressed gratitude to Vogue for shedding a positive light on his wife.
Ye, who has been romantically linked to Censori since 2022, was nominated for Best Rap Song at the recent Grammys for “Carnival.” However, the award ultimately went to Kendrick Lamar for “Not Like Us,” which also secured Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
