Surprising Joke Leaves Parrot in a Fluster

Few creatures possess the musical prowess of parrots. While most birds have a natural inclination towards music, parrots and other “talking” birds exhibit exceptional auditory skills and a knack for imitation that enables them to learn not only bird songs but also human melodies. Parrots have the ability to memorize their favorite tunes, as demonstrated by Auggie the dancing Quaker parrot. Auggie’s owner attempted to play a prank by altering the lyrics of her beloved song, but Auggie’s keen ear caught on to the changes!

For those unfamiliar with Auggie and her antics, here is a bit of background. Auggie delights in performing her little dance routine whenever her owner, Jen Greenberg (@the_green_bird_brigade on TikTok), sings the “Bacon Pancakes” tune from Adventure Time. While the song typically features lines like “Bacon pancakes, makin’ bacon pancakes,” Jen decided to introduce new words such as “floofy” and “feather” this time around. Each time Auggie heard an altered lyric, she paused her dance, shook her head, and fluffed up her feathers in protest. Poor Auggie was clearly not amused!

Commentators on the video couldn’t help but chuckle at Auggie’s reactions. “Incorrect word and the feathers get ruffled,” remarked @jc1.2024. “She literally stopped tapping when you changed the word and fluffed every time,” noted @peaceloveanimals. “@hawaii1745 humorously imagined Auggie thinking, ‘Ma’am, how have we forgotten the words to *our* favorite song?’

If you suspect that Auggie’s responses were merely coincidental and that she doesn’t truly know the lyrics to “Bacon Pancakes,” take a look at their other videos together. Auggie not only dances to “Bacon Pancakes” but also sings it frequently. In Jen’s words, Auggie knows the “Bacon Pancakes” lyrics “like the back of her pantaloons.” Witnessing her mom intentionally fumble the words must have felt akin to hearing someone butcher your favorite song at karaoke for Auggie—it just wasn’t right.
