Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall of over 270,000 vehicles due to a potential issue with the batteries that could result in a loss of power. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that the recall affects a total of 272,817 Bronco and Maverick vehicles equipped with 12-volt batteries manufactured by Camel Battery, a Chinese company.
The concern stems from the possibility of internal failures within the battery, leading to a degradation of its performance while the vehicle is in operation. This degradation could ultimately result in a sudden failure of the battery, leading to a loss of essential electric-powered features such as hazard lights. Furthermore, the loss of power could potentially render the vehicle unable to restart or stall during situations like auto stop/start or when coming to a stop at low speeds, posing a safety risk for drivers and passengers alike.
Although there have been no reported accidents, fires, or injuries related to this battery issue, Ford advises owners of the affected vehicles to take proactive measures. The vehicles included in this recall are the 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs and the 2022-2023 Maverick pickup trucks. Owners are urged to contact their nearest Ford dealer, where the 12-volt battery will be inspected and replaced free of charge if deemed necessary.
Notifications regarding this recall are expected to be sent out via mail by February 3rd.
