Dunkin’ customers in several states found themselves facing empty doughnut cases last week due to a temporary supply shortage that impacted some stores. A spokesperson for Dunkin’ confirmed in an emailed statement to USA TODAY on Tuesday that a “single-supplier issue temporarily affected some locations in a handful of states.” The statement further noted that “less than one percent of Dunkin’ locations are currently still impacted, and we’re actively working to restock those locations.” The spokesperson expressed confidence that inventory would be replenished soon.
Reports from the Associated Press, Newsweek, and other sources revealed that the shortage affected Dunkin’ stores across Nebraska, New Mexico, and Colorado, among other states. According to KDVR, a Fox television affiliate in Denver, certain locations in Colorado also experienced the impact of the supply issue.
The shortage led to Dunkin’ stores in Omaha, Lincoln, and Grand Island in Nebraska being without doughnuts in their cases on Thursday and Friday. Signs were displayed on their doors and drive-thru kiosks, informing customers that the pastries were unavailable “due to a manufacturing error.” The Dunkin’ spokesperson shared images with USA TODAY on Tuesday showing the Nebraska locations with their doughnuts restocked.
Following the resolution of the supply issue, Dunkin’ locations in Nebraska have now been replenished with doughnuts. The problem arose from an issue with a supplier, which temporarily disrupted the availability of doughnuts in some stores last week.
In contrast to Dunkin’, another major national doughnut chain, Krispy Kreme, confirmed that they were not impacted by any supply issues. Dave Skena, Chief Growth Officer at Krispy Kreme, stated in an email, “At Krispy Kreme, we make our doughnuts fresh from scratch every day at shops all across the country. We don’t rely on other manufacturers for the awesome doughnuts we serve our guests.”
