Denmark’s Jesper Sorensen Takes Charge of Vancouver Whitecaps!

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The Vancouver Whitecaps have appointed former Denmark midfielder Jesper Sorensen as the team’s new head coach. Sorensen, boasting a coaching career of 16 years, steps into the role previously held by Vanni Sartini, who was relieved of his duties in late November after a three-season tenure with the MLS club.

Prior to joining the Whitecaps, Sorensen served as the head coach at Danish club Brondby, where he achieved a commendable record of 37 wins, 19 draws, and 17 losses over 73 matches. Additionally, he brought his expertise to Denmark’s under-21 national team.

Sporting director Axel Schuster expressed confidence in the appointment, stating, “Jesper is renowned for his competitive spirit, adaptability, and leadership, qualities that have consistently inspired peak performances from his players and staff. Across his career, he has delivered immediate success, whether through securing promotions or contending for championships. His talent for player development and implementing a versatile, high-performance tactical approach will be instrumental to our ongoing progress.”

Having enjoyed a successful professional playing career in Denmark spanning 15 years, Sorensen also represented various Danish youth national teams.

In the most recent season, the Whitecaps concluded with a record of 13 wins, 13 draws, and 8 losses. They advanced past the play-in stage, defeating the Portland Timbers before succumbing to LAFC in a three-game playoff series.
