In Florida, a tourist has been arrested and charged with murder, battery, and other offenses for allegedly killing a bystander with a fire extinguisher while being evicted from a hotel. On January 10, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a man on January 8 following a 911 call reporting a violent altercation involving a fire extinguisher. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Piero Estefano But-Castillo, was found by deputies beating 55-year-old Robert Krusinowski. But-Castillo, a Chilean national, was reportedly upset after being asked to leave the hotel, and Krusinowski was attempting to calm him down. Despite Krusinowski’s efforts to de-escalate the situation, But-Castillo viciously attacked him with the fire extinguisher, resulting in Krusinowski’s death.
Court documents reveal that But-Castillo also caused property damage at the hotel and assaulted hotel staff. The brutal incident was partially captured on video by another hotel resident. Krusinowski, a long-time resident who assisted with property maintenance, suffered severe head injuries and ultimately succumbed to his wounds at the scene. But-Castillo, who had entered the U.S. from Chile on a tourist visa, is currently being held at the Osceola County Jail without bond and faces charges including first-degree murder, resisting arrest, battery, and criminal mischief.
