Former Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll is set to interview with the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday for their vacant head coaching position, according to NFL Network. This comes after Carroll had previously interviewed for the same role with the Chicago Bears earlier in the week.
The Raiders made the decision to part ways with head coach Antonio Pierce on Tuesday, just two days after finishing a disappointing 4-13 season. Pierce, 46, struggled during his 1 1/2 seasons with the team, accumulating a 9-17 record. He initially took over as interim head coach following the midseason dismissal of Josh McDaniels in 2023.
Carroll, 73, brings a wealth of experience to the table, having enjoyed a successful 14-year tenure with the Seattle Seahawks, where he clinched a Super Bowl victory. He holds the record for the most wins by any Seahawks coach, with 137 victories to his name. Carroll also boasts the most playoff appearances (10) and wins (10) in the franchise’s history. Following his resignation after the 2023 season, Carroll remained involved with the team as an adviser.
In addition to his time with the Seahawks, Carroll has had stints with the New York Jets in 1994 and the New England Patriots from 1997 to 1999. His overall record as an NFL head coach stands at 170-120-1.
Carroll’s success extends beyond the professional ranks, as he achieved great heights in college football as well. During his nine-year tenure at the University of Southern California, he led the Trojans to two national championships and compiled an impressive 97-19 record. Carroll’s unique accomplishment of winning both a Super Bowl and a college national championship places him in an exclusive club of just three coaches to achieve this feat.
