The tragic incident occurred on an exit leading to a parking lot off the A11 highway near an interchange close to Prenzlau, northeast of Berlin, according to the German news agency dpa.
The bus involved in the accident came to rest on its side, with no additional vehicles believed to have been part of the collision. The cause of the accident remains unclear, with reports indicating that wintry weather conditions prevailed at the time of the incident.
Approximately 14 to 15 individuals were onboard the bus when the accident transpired. The A11 highway serves as a vital link connecting Berlin with the Polish city of Szczecin.
Speaking on behalf of the Brandenburg state police, spokesperson Beate Kardels disclosed that the bus, operated by Flixbus, a prominent long-distance bus service in Germany, was en route to Poland. Specific details regarding the bus’s departure point were not immediately available.
