Frey mentioned that despite being at 125% capacity for dogs, the shelter was determined to support the animals affected by the Palisade Fire. A puppy rescued by Sacramento SPCA from Pasadena Humane during the fire was highlighted. Sacramento SPCA CEO Jennifer Brent expressed immediate support for Pasadena Humane as they cared for displaced animals and prepared for potential evacuations. Emphasizing solidarity, Brent stated that assisting Pasadena during such a crisis was an easy decision for Sacramento.

In response to the fire, San Diego Humane Society mobilized teams to evacuate animals from Pasadena Humane. A total of 39 dogs and one kitten were rescued and brought to San Diego by Thursday. This operation required coordination and preparation, though San Diego Humane’s experience in emergency responses facilitated the evacuations. Animals previously available for adoption in Pasadena are now up for adoption in San Diego.

Similarly, Sacramento SPCA transferred 34 animals from overwhelmed shelters in Pasadena and Southern California to their facility. Following a successful transport operation, the animals received necessary care upon arrival in Sacramento. Health assessments will be conducted to evaluate their readiness for adoption over the coming days.

Frey encouraged support through adoption or temporary fostering to relieve pressure on shelters during emergencies. All evacuated dogs were deemed ready for adoption, with hopes of finding them new homes soon.

“Those looking to aid in the relief efforts for animals affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles can support Pasadena Humane by making donations of funds or essential items,” shared Frey. For more information on how and what to contribute, individuals can visit the organization’s website.
