They commenced their romantic journey almost instantaneously following a fateful plane voyage, making their public debut as a couple in April 2013. Subsequently, during that very summer, they cemented their commitment in a private matrimonial affair. In an interview with Marie Claire in 2014, the actor candidly expressed, “I don’t do the ABCs, I do what my heart says, what my heart feels. So from the moment I met my husband, we were together. We knew.” She revealed that both she and Perego had initially eschewed the notion of marriage prior to their encounter, but the profundity of their affection altered their perspectives entirely.
“As soon as we resolved that we were destined for matrimony, we wasted no time. Three weeks later, we exchanged vows. That aspect transpired swiftly,” she disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter in 2014. The couple has been blessed with three sons. The artistic duo welcomed Zen Anton, aged 7, and twins Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio Perego-Saldaña, aged 9.
In a display of romantic devotion, Perego-Saldaña opted to adopt his wife’s surname upon their union. Recounting the scenario during a 2015 feature in InStyle, she recounted her initial reservations about his decision. “I advised him, ‘If you adopt my name, you may encounter emasculation within your artistic community, among fellow Latin men, and across the globe,’” she reminisced. However, she narrated his response, imitating his Italian accent, “Ah, Zoe, I don’t give a sheet.”
She later clarified her sentiments via a Facebook post. “Fathers, sons, brothers, men worldwide: Your legacy will not wane by embracing your partner’s surname or allowing her to retain hers,” she articulated. “I felt a sense of pride when my spouse elected to embrace my surname as his… and I, his. He also posed the question, ‘Why not? What do you fear?’ This left me contemplating… What is it that I fear?”
Continuing, she queried, “Why does it provoke such astonishment, outcry, or sensation when a man chooses to adopt his wife’s surname? Women have never been interrogated regarding the relinquishment of their names — why does this not spark headlines? Men, your essence will not dissipate by incorporating your partner’s surname. Conversely, you will be remembered as a trailblazer for change. I am confident that our sons will hold their father in high esteem and admiration for leading through example.”
Perego-Saldaña consistently emerges as a fervent supporter of Zoe, frequently accompanying her on prestigious red carpet events and utilizing his Instagram platform to extol her achievements and advocate for her undertakings.
