A 25-year-old man, Imran Chowdhury, from Chingford, east London, has been charged with aiding Daniel Khalife following his escape from Wandsworth Prison in September 2023. The Metropolitan Police disclosed that Chowdhury was apprehended in January 2024 and officially charged in December of the same year. Chowdhury is scheduled to make an appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, as confirmed by the police force.
Khalife’s escape strategy involved securing himself underneath a food delivery van. After a rigorous four-day pursuit, the former British army soldier was eventually captured in London. In November 2024, Khalife was convicted for his prison break and also for engaging in espionage on behalf of Iran.
Subsequent to Chowdhury’s arrest, another individual was taken into custody in relation to assisting Khalife post-escape. The 25-year-old woman, apprehended in east London, faced similar allegations. However, the Metropolitan Police revealed on Monday that no further actions were being pursued against her.
Daniel Khalife, a former British military personnel, not only orchestrated a daring prison escape but was also found guilty of espionage for Iran. His illicit activities were unveiled during legal proceedings where he expressed aspirations for notoriety and recognition.
