Former Superintendent Dr. Chris Gaines shared insights into his decision-making process, which involves gathering information from various sources, such as the National Weather Service, and coordinating with neighboring districts through conference calls. The assumption is that parents have likely departed for work assuming their child has been picked up for school. Consequently, students are transported to school as usual, with further determinations made upon their arrival to ensure everyone’s safety.

In the realm of private schools, the pivotal determination lies with the principal. Charter schools, which offer an alternative educational choice, wield autonomy in such verdicts and are not bound to conform with neighboring school closures. Given that charter schools lack defined district boundaries, students may hail from any location to attend, rendering the process of school closures due to inclement weather a more intricate affair. Typically, they align their decisions with county announcements.

The primary objective remains the safety and well-being of students and staff, all while striving to mitigate disruptions to the educational continuum.
