Elton and Betty Denner, a long-standing couple, recently marked their 82nd wedding anniversary in October 2024 and then celebrated Betty’s 100th birthday on December 16. Their great-granddaughter, Macey Montgomery, shared the heartwarming double milestone event on TikTok, capturing the moment when Elton bought a special walker so he could dance with Betty on her special day.
Betty, exclusively speaking to PEOPLE, expressed their gratitude, saying, “We’ve been blessed in countless ways. We now have 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.” The love story of the Denners began at Santa Ana High School in California, where they first met during a dance. Betty’s bold move of cutting in on a dance led to their dating and a courtship filled with Saturday night dances at the Palladium in Los Angeles to the tunes of Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, and Tommy Dorsey.
Their journey faced challenges during World War II when Elton joined the Army Air Corps pilot training program in 1943. Before his departure, the couple exchanged vows on October 18, 1942, in a garden setting in Santa Ana. Post-war, they settled in Corona del Mar, California, where they raised their family before embarking on a cross-country adventure in their ‘Blue Bus.’
Now over eight decades into their marriage, the couple continues to cherish each other’s company. To celebrate Betty’s 100th birthday, the family arranged a four-day Disney-themed event since the couple can no longer visit the park.
During the celebration, Elton surprised Betty with a dance using his special walker at a Cinderella ball, dressed as Prince Charming while Betty wore Cinderella’s iconic blue gown. The heartfelt moment, captured by Macey and shared on TikTok, quickly went viral.
Macey shared the couple’s advice for a loving relationship: “patience, doing things together, and leaning on faith.” She highlighted how their enduring love and legacy have inspired her own marriage, emphasizing the importance of dancing, laughter, family, and patience.
