From the groundbreaking introduction of a uniquely shaped Kit Kat to the savory allure of Dot’s Parmesan Garlic Pretzels, and from the enticing blend of Dr Pepper Creamy Coconut to the irresistible fusion of Jif Peanut Butter and Chocolate Spread, my gastronomic journey was adorned with a multitude of remarkable culinary experiences.
Despite the abundance of snack, candy, and beverage innovations, my most cherished food discovery of 2024 did not hail from these aisles. Instead, it was an unassuming pantry staple that seamlessly integrated itself into my cooking routine. Without a doubt, the standout grocery purchase of 2024 for me was Sauz’s jarred pasta sauce.
Sauz has carved a special place in my culinary repertoire, a domain typically dominated by Rao’s Homemade with occasional appearances by DeLallo’s sauce. While my love for Rao’s Homemade marinara remains unwavering for day-to-day cooking, my encounter with Sauz and its distinctive flavor profiles during the summer months elevated my dining experiences to new heights. Hence, I ensure that a jar or two of Sauz sauce is always within reach, enabling me to infuse classic Italian dishes with a burst of enhanced flavors.
The inception of Sauz jarred sauces dates back to 2023, and the brand currently boasts a portfolio of five enticing varieties: Hot Honey Marinara, Summer Lemon Marinara, Creamy Calabrian Vodka, Wild Rosemary Marinara, and the latest addition, Cracked Pepper & Parmesan. The exclusive Cracked Pepper & Parmesan sauce, available only at Target, joined the lineup when Sauz expanded its distribution to Target stores nationwide in October.
My culinary journey with Sauz commenced with the Hot Honey Marinara sauce, a pleasantly surprising encounter that left me enamored with its unique blend of sweet and spicy flavors. Initially apprehensive about the honey’s sweetness complementing the acidity of tomatoes, I was proven wrong by the harmonious balance achieved in this sauce. Moreover, the enjoyable kick of heat added to its appeal. While the Hot Honey Marinara swiftly became a personal favorite, it is the Creamy Calabrian Vodka sauce that truly captivates my palate, beckoning me back for more.
